North CarolinaThese photographs were made while Martin lived in Raleigh, NC, during the early and mid-1990s. They include three separate projects. One has to do with the maritime life of Harkers Island, NC, and some of those pictures were published in Hope for a Good Season (with Carmine Prioli, Down Home Press, Asheboro, NC, 1998). A second set of pictures follows a tobacco farmer from the planting of seed beds to eventual auction. A third group contains pictures of historic buildings in Wake County, taken at night. (A partial listing of these can be found on the UNC-Chapel Hill’s library’s Southern Collection’s web site:www.lib.unc/ncc/pcoll/61martin/)
